lateral geniculate body

n :  a part of the metathalamus that consists of an oval elevation situated on the posterolateral surface of the thalamus, is the terminus of most fibers of the optic tract, and receives nerve impulses from the retinas which are relayed to the visual area by way of the geniculocalcarine tracts - compare MEDIAL GENICULATE BODY  .
