n :  an interferon that is produced esp. by fibroblasts, possesses antiviral activity, and is used in a form obtained from recombinant DNA esp. in the treatment of multiple sclerosis marked by recurrent attacks alternating with periods of remission - compare ALPHA INTERFERON GAMMA INTERFERON  .
