Sand·hoff's disease

or  Sand*hoff disease  n :  a hereditary disorder of lipid metabolism that is closely related to or a variant of Tay-Sachs disease, that typically affects individuals of non-Jewish ancestry, and that is characterized by great reduction in or absence of both hexosaminidase A and hexosaminidase B

U., , and Jatzkewitz, H., German medical scientists. Sandhoff, Andreae, and Jatzkewitz jointly published a description of a variant form of Tay-Sachs disease in 1968. They based their report on three typical cases of Tay-Sachs, one exceptional case, and seven controls.
