npl  -lar*es   :  any of three muscles attached to the cartilage of the external ear that assist in moving the scalp and in some individuals the external ear itself and that consist of one that is anterior, one superior, and one posterior in position - called also respectively auricularis anterior , auricularis superior  and auricularis posterior  .
