n :  a large genus (the type of the family Aristolochiaceae) of mostly tropical herbs or woody vines with pungent aromatic rootstocks and very irregular flowers that includes several that have been used medicinally (as Texas snakeroot, A. reticulata, and Virginia snakeroot, A. serpentaria) .
