alanine aminotransferase

n :  an enzyme which promotes transfer of an amino group from glutamic acid to pyruvic acid and which when present in abnormally high levels in the blood is a diagnostic indication of liver disease - abbr. ALT - called also glutamic pyruvic transaminase  .
