Heschl's gyrus

n :  a convolution of the temporal lobe that is the cortical center for hearing and runs obliquely outward and forward from the posterior part of the lateral sulcus
 
Heschl, Richard Ladislaus (1824-1881),
Austrian anatomist. A professor of pathological anatomy, Heschl in 1855 published a textbook on the subject. The text includes his description of the convolution of the temporal lobe that now is known as Heschl's gyrus.
