Houston's valve

n :  any of the usu. three but sometimes four or two permanent transverse semilunar folds of the rectum - called also plica transversalis recti 
 
Houston, John (1802-1845),
British surgeon. Houston described the permanent transverse folds of the rectum in 1830. In that same year he reported his discovery of two muscles that compress the dorsal vein of the penis. He was also the author of papers on edema and fevers.
