n 1  :  an enzyme that promotes the hydrolysis of a nucleoside  2  :  a phosphorylase that promotes reversibly the reaction of a nucleoside with phosphate forming a base and a phosphate of ribose or deoxyribose - called also nucleoside phosphorylase  .
