Martinotti, Giovanni (1857-1928), Italian pathologist. Martinotti held the position of professor of anatomy and pathology successively at Modena, Siena, and Bologna. In 1889 he described certain cells in the cerebral cortex with ascending axons; they are now known as Martinotti cells.
