Mar·ti·not·ti cell

or  Mar*ti*not*ti's cell  n :  a multipolar fusiform nerve cell in the deepest layer of the cerebral cortex with axons ascending into the layer of pyramidal cells
 
Martinotti, Giovanni (1857-1928),
Italian pathologist. Martinotti held the position of professor of anatomy and pathology successively at Modena, Siena, and Bologna. In 1889 he described certain cells in the cerebral cortex with ascending axons; they are now known as Martinotti cells.
