Ho·tis test

n :  a test for the presence of the common streptococcus of bovine mastitis in milk which is made by incubating a sample of milk with an aniline dye and in which the appearance of yellow patches indicates the presence of the organism
 
Hotis, Ralph P. (1890-1935),
American agricultural marketing specialist. Hotis was an employee of the United States Department of Agriculture and coordinated the testing of the fitness of milk for consumption. The test method was published in 1936 and posthumously named in his honor.
