hemolytic uremic syndrome

n :  any of a group of rare disorders that are characterized by microangiopathic hemolytic anemia, thrombocytopenia, and varying degrees of kidney failure, that are precipitated by a variety of etiological factors, and that include forms tending to affect esp. young children, pregnant and postpartum women, or females from age 10 to 50 - abbr.
