hypoglossal nerve

n :  either of the 12th and final pair of cranial nerves which are motor nerves arising from the medulla oblongata and supplying muscles of the tongue and hyoid apparatus in higher vertebrates - called also hypoglossal , twelfth cranial nerve  .
