npl  -cho*ses   :  infection with or disease caused by a fungus of the genus Sporothrix (S. schenckii syn. Sporotrichum schenckii) that is characterized by nodules and abscesses in the superficial lymph nodes, skin, and subcutaneous tissues, that occurs esp. in humans and horses, and that is usu. transmitted by entry of the fungus through a skin abrasion or wound (as from the prick of a thorn) .
